Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Chianti

Meet and greet upon arrival into Florence Airport/ Railway Station, then privately transferred to your hotel in the heart of Tuscany’s most sought-after region, Chianti.

Overnight: COMO Castello del Nero

Day 2 - Exploring Chianti

Today you will enjoy a full day excursion into the beautiful Chianti countryside with your English-speaking driver-guide and private vehicle. Visit some of the lovely hilltop towns such as Greve and Castellina in Chianti, and enjoy a wine tasting at local vineyards. Your driver-guide will take you to the villages known for their traditional foods; such as schiacciata con olio - typical foccacia-like bread with oil, finocchiona - soft salami with fennel seeds. Drive through the forests where in October the famous porcini mushrooms are found. Thankfully the area is also known for it’s preserves so even if out of season, you will be able to find mushrooms, artichokes and other vegetables sott’olio (preserved in oil).

Also visit the village of Panzano in Chianti, home to the ‘Singing Butcher’ of Chianti, well-known for incredible cuts of meat such as the traditional bisteccca fiorentina (Florentine T-bone steak) which can exceed 4 inches in height!

Travel to Badia di Passignano, a medieval hamlet and abbey founded in 395 A.C by the Archbishop of Florence. Monks of the Vallombrosian Order still live in the abbey and are the keepers of its cultural and historical treasures. You will have the opportunity to taste the different Antinori wines.

Overnight: COMO Castello del Nero

Day 3 - Medieval Tuscany

Today you will be met by your private vehicle and English-speaking driver for a half-day tour to some of Tuscany’s most striking villages and towns. With its typical skyline of medieval towers and palaces, San Gimignano is incredibly well preserved and is listed among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Onwards from here visit the village of Monteriggioni, famous throughout Tuscany because its vast defensive walls are all still intact and is referenced in Dante’s “Divine Comedy”.

Optional Insider Access: Escape the crowds with your driver-guide, heading off the tarmac onto the gravel roads that lead through Tuscan hamlets past the endless vineyards and olive groves. Your reward will be the best views and photo-opportunity of San Gimignano, not experienced by the regular traveller.
