Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Edinburgh, Tour of Edinburgh Castle

Upon arrival at Edinburgh airport you will be welcomed to Edinburgh and privately transferred to your hotel. A hospitality area will be set up and you will be assisted with check in.

Enjoy lunch at the Witchery Restaurant, located in a historic and atmospheric building at the gates of Edinburgh Castle. Serving excellent foo, the restaurant is popular both with locals and visitors to the city.

Afterwards join your local guide for a short panoramic overview tour of the city before proceeding to Edinburgh Castle. The most notable landmark in the city, Edinburgh Castle is a picturesque site; clinging precariously to the rocky edge of an extinct volcano, it overlooks the vibrant streets of the Old Town below. Home to kings and queens for centuries, there is much to see within the castle including the Old Royal Palace where you can see the ‘Honours of Scotland’ or the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Royal Apartments where Mary, Queen of Scots, gave birth to her only son James (later to become King James VI of Scotland and James I of England) in 1566. See also the Great Hall where many ceremonies and state assemblies have been held, and Mons Meg, one of the world’s oldest cannons. The castle’s strategic positioning also affords spectacular views of the city and beyond on a clear day.

Tonight dinner will be enjoyed at Howies, set in a Georgian building; Howies is a beautiful, light and spacious restaurant serving traditional Scottish food.

Day 2 - Meetings, Scott's View, Melrose Abbey

This morning you will have meeting room space booked at the hotel with a tea/coffee break and lunch.  Optional sightseeing for spouses can be arranged if required.

Said to be one of the favourite views of Sir Walter Scott, Scott’s view offers a magnificent panorama of the Tweed valley and the three peaks of the Eildon Hills, a scene which embodies the beauty and tranquillity of the Scottish Borders countryside.

After admiring the view, visit Melrose Abbey. The woollen mill town of Melrose is home to one of the region’s many ruined abbeys and plays a fundamental role in the history of the Scottish borders. Despite attacks from England in the 12th century, monks from Melrose Abbey and three other Abbeys in the region, promoted agriculture and crafts and gained prosperity through wool production. The ruins on Melrose Abbey still stand, magnificently built from red sandstone, each window is detailed and eye-catching, and Sir Walter Scott celebrated the abbey’s beauty by moonlight in his “Lay of the Last Minstrel”. It is also said that Robert the Bruce’s heart is buried at the high alter.

Dinner tonight will be enjoyed at the Tower restaurant, which offers stunning views of the city and serves innovative cuisine including shellfish, Scottish seafood and games, all accompanied by a superb wine list.

Edinburgh Ghost Tour
Edinburgh’s history has been long and tumultuous with murders, hangings and plague leaving a haunting legacy on the city. For those brave enough to venture back into a past of dark secrets, this ghostly underground tour takes you on a passage around the eerie old buildings and dark alleyways of the Old Town where your guide reveals gruesome stories and terrifying tales from Edinburgh’s grisly past.

In the late 18th century a catacomb of underground chambers were formed in the 19 enormous arches of Edinburgh’s South Bridge. Traders, both legal and illegal, began to deal here and, for 30 years, the community thrived. Though these vaults were abandoned 200 years ago, the labyrinth of dark passages and gloomy chambers remain unchanged, concealing evidence of many sinister legends.  It is here that your tour continues by candlelight as your guide divulges tales of those who once lived here and perhaps still do…

For those wishing to add more mystery and teambuilding opportunities, a quirky and challenging treasure hunt can be arranged to test your wit and powers of observation.

Falconry
The falcon is often thought of as a symbol of high birth and luxury and, as such, Falconry is one of the oldest and most aristocratic sports. Gain a wonderful introduction to these majestic birds as a professional handler enthrals you with his demonstrations. Once you’ve familiarised yourself with the birds it’s time to enjoy a more hands-on experience. Learn the basic techniques and skills of falconry as you use gloves and lures to fly one of these magnificent birds right to your wrist.
