Art Exhibition and Restoration Work at Belmond Governor’s Residence, Yangon
Belmond Governor's Residence, one of the leading luxury hotels in Yangon, recently launched “Sense of Place”, a special art exhibition that will continue until September 2017. The exhibition is part of the hotel’s new art and music program that includes music and dining events, artist in residence programs, and intimate art cocktail parties throughout the year.
Three of Myanmar's contemporary artists from Nawaday Tharlar Art Gallery, namely Than Htay, Thit Nay Sann and Nilar Tun, have been commissioned to create multiple, large scale 8x12 inch painted bamboo panels depicting captivating landscapes, traditional figures and scenes of life and culture in Myanmar.
The art panels will be displayed around the hotel, helping to conceal areas of the property that are currently undergoing restoration. A series of small-scale restoration projects has been organized to maintain the property’s original Burmese architectural and decorative style.
Work will be carried out on each of the mansion’s eight accommodation buildings at different times, so there will be minimal disturbance to guests. In the meantime, guests are invited to enjoy the unique art panels on display.
