Itinerary

Day 1 - ARRIVE DELHI

Arrive late evening at the New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport. You will be met by our representative outside the customs gate and escorted to your hotel.

 

Day 2 - DELHI

Enjoy a full day guided tour of Delhi.

The city consists of two parts - Old and New Delhi. Old Delhi was the capital of Muslim India between the 17th and 19th century and has many mosques, monuments and forts.

Begin your day with an exploration starting in Old Delhi. Visit Jama Masjid, the Royal Mosque which was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1656. Enjoy a cycle rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes followed by a short walk on the main street of Old Delhi - the colourful shopping bazaar known as Chandni Chowk. Drive past the Red Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Continue to Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

In the afternoon visit New Delhi - the imperial city created by the British as the capital of India. In 1911, Edwin Lutyens, the most renowned English architect of the day, was chosen to design New Delhi. Drive through the majestic boulevards - the Rashtrapati Bhawan is where the Viceroy once lived and is now the official residence of the President of India. View India Gate, a war memorial arch built in honour of 90,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives in World War I. Visit Humayun’s Tomb (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the first great example of Mughal architecture in India. The day’s tour ends at Qutab Minar (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) - a soaring tower of victory which is 72.5 metres high and has five distinct stories.

Day 3 - DELHI – GUWAHATI

This morning you will be escorted to the airport for the flight to Guwahati.

Arrive Guwahati – Kaziranga National park (230 km / 4 ½ hrs) Drive to Kaziranga National Park in time for lunch. Check into a Diphlu River Lodge. Post lunch go for an open jeep safari inside the park or go for a leisure walk in the banks of River Diphlu near your lodge. Dinner and overnight. 

Kaziranga National Parks - another World Heritage Site is the most well known tourist spot in Assam and every Assamese is proud of it. This park is home to some of the most fascinating wildlife in Asia including Great Indian One-horned Rhinoceros. The moist deciduous forests of Kaziranga is a birding paradise with a check list of almost 500 species which includes Green-backed Heron, White bellied Heron (rare), Lesser and greater Adjutants,  Spoonbill, Grey-headed and Pallas's Fish-eagle (common), Swamp Francolin (common), Grey-headed Lapwing, Black-bellied tern, Marsh Babbler, Jordan's Bush chat (rare) White-throated Bush chat and many more.

Day 4 - KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK

Early morning, enjoy a short safari at the National Park. Return to lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, visit a nearby local village. Afternoon take a jeep safari to enter the park. 

Apart from the Rhino, other species found are hog deer, swamp deer, wild buffalo, elephants and if you are lucky, the tiger. It is virtually a paradise for bird watchers, with a variety of migratory and resident birds. It is also home to pelicans, storks and darters as there are a number of water bodies inside the Park.

Day 5 - KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK – KOHIMA

After breakfast drive on to Kohima. Check into a hotel on arrival. Late afternoon visit local market.

Kohima is perched at an altitude of 1444.12 m above sea level, a pretty hill station, with panoramic views of the rugged Naga Hills. It is unspoilt and replete with interesting things to see and do. It is the land of the Angami Naga tribe, which is one of the major tribe in Nagaland. They are known for terraced wet rice cultivation. Angamis were traditionally warriors, in the past, the Angami men spent majority of their time in warfare with hostile villages and taking heads. Kohima had witnessed the fiercest fighting of the Second World War-a fifty day-and night non-stop slogging match.

Day 6 - KOHIMA (HORNBILL FESTIVAL)

After breakfast drive to Kisama village for the Hornbill Festival. Organised by the State Government, Hornbill Festival is an annual Tourism promotional event to showcase Nagaland Traditional and cultural Heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur.

In the afternoon visit the State Museum and the famous war cemetery, a symbolic memorial raised as citation for the supreme sacrifice made by the officers and men of the Allied forces during World War II.

Day 7 - KOHIMA (HORNBILL FESTIVAL)

After breakfast, visit Kisama to enjoy more of Hornbill festival. 

In the afternoon drive to Khonoma village, a place renowned for its valour and courage. The Khonoma gate tells the story of British infiltration into Naga Hills. Drive back to Kohima.

Day 8 - KOHIMA – JORHAT

After breakfast transfer to the plains of Assam in Jorhat. On arrival check into tea planters Bungalow. Overnight.

Day 9 - JORHAT– MON

We will be heading to the hill once more – this time home of the Nagas. We will drive to Mon – the land of the Anghs – the Konyaks which is one of the most traditional tribe in Nagaland and still follows the Kingship system.

The Mon district is dominantly inhabited by the Konyak Tribe. ‘Konyak’ are seen by everyone as the most backward of the sixteen Naga tribes. This on the other hand can also be perceived as the most traditional of the tribes. They have given up their head-hunting ways, but still lives in a very traditional lifestyle. Konyak are adept artisan and skilled craftsman; here you can find excellent woodcarving, daos (machete) guns, gunpowder, head brushes necklace etc.

Day 10 - DAY TRIP TO LONGWA VILLAGE

After an early breakfast we will be drive to Longwa village with packed lunch. True tradition is seen here where people are still not touched by modern ways. Meet village folk, see their way of life. This is one of the big Konyak villages and on the border ridge between India and Myanmar (Burma). The Angh (king) of Longwa commands about 50 villages from both the side. Return to Mon.

Day 11 - MON – DIBRUGARH

After breakfast drive to Dibrugarh through the tea gardens of Assam. Enroute visit Sibsagar the ruins of Ahom dynasty, who ruled over Assam for more than 600 hundred years. Later drive to Jorhat. Check into hotel on arrival.

Day 12 - DIBRUGARH – GUWAHATI - DELHI

After leisurely breakfast you will be escorted to the airport for the flight to Delhi via Guwahati. Arrive Delhi and transfer to International Airport for your flight to onward destination.

Depart Delhi early hours of Day 13.
