Amboseli National Park, at the foot of snow-capped Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, lies 240 kms (145 miles) south-east of Nairobi.  For centuries, it has been the home of the celebrated Maasai, a proud nomadic people, famed for their courage and traditions which endure today. More than any other community in Kenya, they have learned to live in harmony with their environment and its resident wildlife.

The park, almost 400 square kilometers, lies within a ecosystem ten times that size which straddles the border with Tanzania and is host to dozens of species including big cats. Kilimanjaro hangs as a mirage above the hot plains; its ice melts as the precious resource upon which the game here relies, feeding rivers and swamps that sustain life during long periods of dry, when the elephant appear ghost-like for the bone-white dust they toss upon their skins.

Amboseli showcases Africa at her big, beautiful best; the mountain, endless skies, sprawling plains. But it's residence to plenty of the small too; this is one of the few places where the rare and beautiful Taveta Golden Weaver is found.
