(Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus are the Greek forms of their names). The pyramids are truly monumental in scale, with the largest, Khufu's, made of over two million blocks.

Nearby sits the enigmatic Sphinx with the body of a lion and the face of a man wearing a royal head cloth, which workers may have based on King Khafre to guard his enormous funerary monument.

Day 7 - Aswan

Meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel and take a motorboat ride to the island of Agilika to visit the Philae Temple. According to the Ancient Egyptians, the goddess Isis travelled all over Egypt gathering her husband Osiris's remains after he was cut to pieces by his evil brother. On this island, she found his heart, where the Egyptians built the sacred temple for her.

Next, stop at the Unfinished Obelisk to look at how Ancient Egyptians built their monuments by visiting this quarry. A massive obelisk was abandoned there when a crack was found as it was being carved from the red granite. Tools left behind show how builders accomplished such work.

Lunch this afternoon will be served while sailing on a traditional felucca around Elephantine Island.

Later, visit an authentic Nubian Village where you will find friendly residents and brightly painted homes, often adorned with drawings and colours. During the tour you will have the chance to meet with Nubian people over traditional tea in their typical houses.
