Day 2 - Martillac - Bordeaux - Martillac
Today you are met by your local guide and private vehicle for a morning tour of Bordeaux (4 hours).
This morning you have the opportunity to experience historic Bordeaux as you visit some of its famous monuments and buildings. Your guide shows you the 18th-century Place de la Bourse and riverfront. You spend some time visiting the 13th-century Cathedral of Saint André, now a World Heritage-listed monument. You also have a chance to admire the neo-classical facades of the Bordeaux Law Courts, St. André Hospital and the 18th-century Palais Rohan, now the City Hall. View the magnificent 18th-century building facades, before moving on to explore Old Bordeaux town on foot, with its 15th-century Cailhau Gate and the 14th-century ‘Grosse Cloche’, the former belfry of the town hall in the Middle Ages, St Pierre church and the Place du Parlement.
Your tour of Bordeaux ends at the magnificent Grand Theatre, built in 1773 by Victor Louis and generally considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe.
Enjoy a fantastic unique experience when your local Bordeaux host invites you into her apartment, built in 1825 in the centre of Bordeaux where, before the Revolution, the Royal Palace and Chateau Trompete once stood. In this private home enjoy a typically Bordelais dinner or lunch, accompanied by Bordeaux wines, and talk with her about the town of Bordeaux and its wine, life today in south-west France and how France has changed and is continuing to evolve in the world of today.
The remainder of your day is at leisure – why not pre-book a treatment at the unique vinotherapy spa at your hotel? The treatments combine the virtues of naturally warm spring water with vine and grape extracts and include luxurious red wine baths and Merlot wraps.
