Itinerary
Explore the Borobudur countryside by bike, passing through scenic villages and farmland to witness authentic moments of rural life and agriculture. Follow the mostly flat village path through plantations that grow chili, long beans, aubergines and tobacco. Visit a traditional Javanese noodle-maker who produces a type of noodle that is rarely found in modern-day supermarkets but is still very popular among local Javanese people. Continue cycling to a home that produces tofu and tempeh, two common ingredients in Javanese cooking. Then make your way to a pottery workshop where you can learn how to make Indonesian ceramics, the traditional way.
Continue by private vehicle to Borobudur temple. Overlooking lush green plains in Central Java, the gray volcanic stone complex is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Ancient texts date the structure's inauguration to AD 824, although the entire complex took almost 100 years to complete. Take in enchanting views of the countryside and Merapi Mountain while learning about Buddhist history from your guide.
